OCPP IT-Net (Delta) Load Balancing in Charge Amps Cloud Partner and Installer App.
The new OCPP configuration key “EarthingSystem” is added to Charge Amps Dawn’ settings and makes it possible for FW to know which earthing system the charger is installed on. It increases the safety of installations and optimises the use of all three phases to the installation site by dynamically controlling which phases are loaded per charger.
How does it work? The load balancer algorithm distributes the charging EVs on different phase-pairs to spread the load on the site and utilize all three phases as much as possible while still protecting the main fuse from overload. Each Electric Vehicle (EV) receives 1-phase charging from its perspective, with the load being placed on two phase-pairs of the installation site.
Prerequisites - installation requirements:
- Applicable only for Charge Amps Dawn with FW version 1.4.3 onwards*
- Installation site using the IT-Net electrical system
- It’s not possible to mix with TN in the same installation
- The charger(s) need to be installed according to the IT-net instructions in the Installation Manual for Charge Amps Dawn
- Can be used with a measurement device (MD) supported by Charge Amps (Charge Amps Amp Guard, Enegic Monitor), or without any MD
- The earthing system IT setting cannot be edited if the charger is part of a load balancer group.
*If the IT-net option isn’t available, it’s probably because the charger needs to be upgraded first to FW 1.4.3 onwards.
Installation - configuration:
Charging is always done as 2-phase charging on L1L2, with 1-phase charging from EV perspective. Chargers must all be configured as 3-phase installations as RST (no physical phase rotation) with the “IT Norwegian jumper”. Load Balancing Group must be configured with phase-pair “L1L2”.

Load Balancing Group: start configuring as for TN. When creating a LB Group, click on the button “IT” and choose a suitable pair-phase among available (L1L2/L2L3/L3L1). The LB group will have an explicit setting to indicate the earthing system type for the whole LB group (by default it will be TN).
