The improvement of OCPP IT-Net Load Balancing in Charge Amps Cloud
We have released increased support for OCPP Load Balancing in Charge Amps Cloud and Installer App for single or multiple Charge Amps Dawn installations on sites operating within the IT-Net electrical system, mainly in Norway. It´s now possible to select earthing system as TN or IT, and get an optimised load balancing for both earthing systems.
It increases the safety of installations and optimises the use of all three phases to the installation site by dynamically controlling which phases are loaded per charger. For example, it controls which phases are automatically used for charging to maximise charging efficiency.
The support includes load balancing between EV charger(s) and other equipment that also put a load on the same local network.
The load balancing (LB) function is optimal with a measurement device (MD) supported by Charge Amps (e.g. Charge Amps Amp Guard, Enegic Monitor). It is also possible to load balance with limited functionality between EV chargers without any MD.
How does it work?
Each Electric Vehicle (EV) receives 1-phase charging from its perspective, with the load being placed on two phase-pairs of the installation site.
The load balancer algorithm distributes the charging EVs on different phase-pairs (with dynamic phase allocation within OCPP – Charge Amps Cloud) to spread the load on the site and utilize all three phases as much as possible while still protecting the main fuse from overload.
In Charge Amps Cloud and Installer App, the chargers have a new configuration setting called “Earthing system” to guide if a Charge Amps Dawn is installed in an electrical system that uses TN or IT.
How to use IT-net setting?
- Installer App
- Installation Wizard
- Charge Amps Cloud - Partner portal: on the Charger page for each charger, as well as Load Balancing Group settings.
Note: This is applicable only for Charge Amps Dawn. To benefit from the IT-Net load balancing improvement, the chargers need to be installed according to the IT-net instructions in the Installation Manual, and upgraded to the FW version 1.4.3 onwards.
